yes we all know a mad men party needs good cocktails, but what are some good vintage 60s hors d'oeuvres to serve with said old skool cocktails? I'm looking for something a bit more refined than chex mix, but I'll do it.
We had cocktail wieners in puff pastry, various things to go in various Chip N Dips...I can't remember what else, but an obscene gelatin concoction seems appropriate.
Go "Joy of Cooking" all the way, Nancy. I think the way to go is authentically kitchsy but with great ingredients and everything homemade. So, I do shrimp cocktail (for which I make an ice bowl...MUCH easier than in sounds) and make my own cocktail sauce. I did french onion dip, also from scratch. I think the reference can be '60s foodorama, but the substance should be 100% yummy real food. We can explore this theme when you help me prepare the Mad Men dinner party you have asked me to host.
